Every Saturday morning, from mid-November to mid-March, Richerenches comes alive around Europe’s largest black truffle market. Truffle growers, brokers, and enthusiasts from across France gather around the famous “black diamond.” Staying at Le Mas des Oliviers, just a short walk from the market, lets you experience this unique atmosphere first-hand — then unwind in the quiet of an authentic Provençal farmhouse.
The Richerenches Truffle Market, a Must-See
Richerenches is no ordinary village: it accounts for over 50% of the truffle supply in southeastern France and roughly 30% of national black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) production. Every Saturday morning, from 9am to 1pm, two markets run side by side:
Avenue de la Rabasse — the market open to the public, where anyone can buy fresh truffles directly, alongside a local produce market (honey, cheese, olive oil, truffle-tree saplings).
Cours du Mistral — reserved for professionals, brokers, and producers, for wholesale trading.
At 11:30am and 1pm, a local association serves truffle omelettes (booking recommended through the Richerenches tourist office).
The first Saturday of December marks the official opening of the season, with a parade by the Confrérie du Diamant Noir (Black Diamond Brotherhood) and truffle-dog hunting demonstrations.
ℹ️ Exact season dates vary slightly each year (generally mid-November to mid-March) — please check the precise calendar on richerenches.fr before booking your dates, or contact us directly.
